    About Champagne Olivier Marteaux

The history of Champagne Olivier Marteaux in Azy-sur-Marne dates back to 1950 when Marcel Marteaux, a winegrower and nurseryman, founded the family estate. In 1968, his son Joël took over the business and expanded the vineyard. In 1998, Olivier Marteaux, Marcel's grandson, became a récoltant-manipulant and created the "Champagne Olivier Marteaux" brand in 2009. Today, the estate spans 9 hectares across around forty plots in the Marne Valley. The vineyard is managed using sustainable practices and is certified High Environmental Value (HVE). The champagnes produced reflect the terroir and the expertise passed down through three generations.

The Marteaux estate is a family-run vineyard spanning 9 hectares across around forty plots in the Marne Valley. Olivier Marteaux established himself on the family property and has been producing his own champagne since 2009. He crafts a range of six champagnes that reflect his personality, highlight his terroir, and showcase the fruits of his labor.

Committed to sustainable and responsible viticulture, he prioritizes natural products, ensures manual harvesting, and applies rigorous selection in the vineyard. The wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks before aging for several years in the cellar, allowing them to develop their full complexity before reaching your table. A collection of exquisite cuvées awaits discovery.

The Olivier Marteaux Estate: A Know-How Anchored in the Terroir

The Olivier Marteaux Estate, located in Azy-sur-Marne, extends across several neighboring communes, including Bonneil, Essômes-sur-Marne, Charly-sur-Marne, and Romeny-sur-Marne. Through his commitment to sustainable viticulture and deep respect for the terroir, Olivier Marteaux produces authentic champagnes that reflect the excellence of the Marne Valley.

Azy-sur-Marne, with its rich viticultural heritage and ideal environment for vine growing, is a must-visit place for champagne enthusiasts seeking authenticity and tradition.

The Olivier Marteaux Vineyard: An Exceptional Terroir in the Heart of the Marne Valley

Located on the sun-drenched slopes of the right bank of the Marne Valley, the Olivier Marteaux vineyard spans five communes: Azy-sur-Marne, Bonneil, Essômes-sur-Marne, Charly-sur-Marne, and Romeny-sur-Marne. This remarkable terroir allows the cultivation of the three emblematic Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, each adding its uniqueness to exceptional champagnes.

    • Pinot Meunier imparts fruitiness and softness, enhancing the distinctive character of the wines from the Marne Valley.
    • Chardonnay brings finesse and lightness, offering a touch of elegance.
    • Pinot Noir contributes power and nobility, ensuring the structure and depth of the cuvées.

    A Rich and Varied Terroir

The vineyard sits on a limestone subsoil, typical of the western Marne Valley basin, east of the Paris Basin. The diversity of soils—alternating between clays, marls, and various limestones depending on the plot—gives the champagnes an aromatic richness and complexity unique to this wine-growing region.

Spanning around thirty parcels, the estate benefits from an ideal exposure on the sometimes steep slopes of the right bank of the Marne, offering optimal conditions for grape ripening.

A Vineyard Respectful of the Environment

Committed to sustainable viticulture, Olivier Marteaux cultivates his vineyard with a deep respect for the environment:

    • Natural grass cover between vine rows to limit soil erosion.
    • Soil cultivation through plowing on suitable plots to encourage deep rooting.
    • Natural fertilization using organic fertilizers such as manure to maintain soil balance.
    • Reasoned protection: regular observations are made in the plots to apply treatments only when absolutely necessary.

Through these respectful practices and meticulous craftsmanship, Olivier Marteaux Champagnes authentically express the full richness of their terroir, elevating each cuvée with finesse and elegance.
